The Ringwald family began farming at its current location when, in the early 1880's, Wessel Reinder Ringwald and his family moved from Illinois to central Kansas. They came by covered wagon at a time when roads were still poor, necessitating the cutting of trees in places to allow their wagon to pass. The trip took about a month. He built a dugout into the bank of Cow Creek in which they lived for three years.
In 1885, the Ringwald family purchased the NE 1/4 of Section 32-18-10 in Rice County. The quarter was purchased for $1,000. The farm headquarters is still located there today. As with most farms in central Kansas, the Ringwald farm began as primarily a wheat growing farm with various livestock to supplement income and provide additional food to eat. |
The farm was passed down to subsequent generations over the years, starting with Wessel Reinder Ringwald in 1885, then as follows: Reinder Wessel Ringwald, Wessel Reinder Ringwald, and Michel J. Ringwald. In 2010, Michel passed the management responsibilities onto Chad, Christopher, and Justin Ringwald.
